Product Description

Centipede is a perennial warm season grass that is slow-growing but aggressive enough to produce a dense turf with low maintenance. It is adapted to sandy, acidic soils, and it has low fertility requirements. Centipede grass spread by stolons and is considered to be course in texture with a light green color. It is shade and drought tolerant. Centipede has a worldwide reputation for having the lowest maintenance requirements of attractive turf and it is considered to be "the lazy man's grass preference." It is widely grown in the mid-south and is aggressive enough to choke out weeds and other grasses. Plant Centipede grass seed in the spring once soil temperature reaches 70F. If planting in the fall, allow a minimum of 10 weeks for establishment before the first frost. Broadcast ½ of the seed walking across the area north to south, and repeat a second application with the remaining ½ of seed walking east to west. Keep the seed consistently moist until germination occurs. First mowing is usually within 45 - 60 days. Optimal mowing height is 1 - 2 inches. Water infrequently and deeply during the growing season. This seed is coated with a clay-based material which enhances seed germination. When buying seed that is coated, ½ of the weight will be the coating substance and will be listed as inert matter. Super Grass
This grass is like all Zoysia grasses in that getting it to start growing is extremely hard because watering it has to be perfect. Once it takes hold then look out it, is an awesome grass. It looks and feels like a premium grade fescue but uses much less water and grows slower, it also becomes weed free in a couple seasons.

zoysia is great
I plowed up 3 parts of my yard and planted zoysia, bermuda, and centipede. Centipede is good but there are few weed killers you can use with it. There are good weed killers for use in Bermuda and Zoysia. The Bermuda is wimpy though, you will have kill weeds frequently. The Zoysia is wonderful. It is very slow growing. That's bad because it takes a long time to fill in but it's great because it still looks good a week after cutting while the Centipede is looking ragged. You should know that what I planted either did not come up or came up very sparingly, especially if planted late in the summer. It came up the next year in all cases for me. What I planted 5 years ago looks fantastic now. I have no trouble cutting Scott's Zoysia with a normal lawn mower. I've been told that older versions required a special (reel) mower to cut. Besides looking great for along time after cutting (compared to Centipede or Bermuda) and feeling great (very well cushioned compared to other...

1/2 bags grew with Seeding soil
I got 2 of the 5 pound bags. One was placed on bare soil while the other was mixed with Scotts 'seeding' soil. Watered both 2 x day. Less than 5 % of the bare soil seed grew while 95% of the seed in the 'seeding' soil grew. It did take close to 3 weeks to emerge and it's now 2 months and just now maturing. It is as someone noted much thicker blades....I have some sod pieces transplanted from Neighbors Zenith Zosia ...the Scotts is also much softer/less coarse, but not as dense (as of yet).

kills bermuda grass
I bought this product to rid my fescue lawn of bermuda. I can see the bermuda dying back and the fescue appears unharmed. Also, the crab grass is dying.

Hey, it works - kills Bermuda grass
This is the first product I have seen that will actually kill bermuda grass while leaving the fescue alone. You will need multiple applications because bermuda is really tough stuff. Note that the other stuff "controls" it; this can kill it.

Works good if you're persistant with it.
I first tried Ornamec a few years ago to try and rid my fescue lawn of bermudagrass; I applied it once and was disappointed with the results. Two years later I tried again, following the directions closer this time - success! You have to be persistant and apply it as the directions say - one application will not do it. I'm in VA so I'll have to wait until fall to replant fescue in some areas, but the areas that still have fescue are doing good - the bermudagrass has died back and the fescue is growing strong. The bottle of surfacant that comes with it is too small for the entire bottle; you'll have to buy another before you run out of Ornamec.

Good Product
I had a lot of funky annoying weeds growing in my front lawn and it was starting to look the worst of the neighborhood! I applied this and it has been about 2/3 weeks and already it is looking A LOT BETTER! Weeds have reduced (still a few) and the grass is growing much better than before. I will definitely get Step 3 so that I can end up with the best lawn :)

cLOVER kILLER!!
Clover had slowly taken over a third of my lawn; after one use of Step 2 Fertilizer, clover was all gone in about 7 days. The lawn is gorgeous; Scotts never let's me down!
